Chandigarh, April 28: The state of Punjab has officially entered the first phase of Census 2027 following a launch ceremony led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann in Sangrur. The Chief Minister initiated the “House Listing and Enumeration of Houses” by submitting his details through the state’s online census portal, a move toward a fully digitized census operation.
“Self-enumeration is a key feature of Census 2027,” the Chief Minister asserted. He stated that the online process enhances transparency and data accuracy while reducing the state’s reliance on manual data entry. Mann maintained that providing timely and precise information is a civic duty that ensures welfare schemes are properly directed toward the population.
Administrative Secretary Manjit Singh Brar and Deputy Commissioner Rahul Chaba assisted in facilitating the launch. Dr. Navjot Khosa, Director of Census Operations, affirmed that having the state leadership lead the initiative encourages a larger segment of society to participate. She stated that the upcoming door-to-door phase, scheduled to begin in mid-May, will involve 33 specific questions to ensure no household is overlooked in the national count.
The Chief Minister declared that the people of Punjab should set a strong example for the rest of the country by embracing the technology-based process. He affirmed that a comprehensive database is the only way to ensure that the state’s planning and resource management remain effective for the coming decade.
