Chandigarh: A visit by BJP leadership to Toor Banjara village in Sangrur met with strong local resistance, prompting sharp reactions from the ruling Aam Aadmi Party. Senior AAP leader Manish Sisodia declared that the public reaction brought an immediate halt to attempts by opposition leaders to capitalize on the death of local resident Gulzar Singh.
Sisodia maintained that when BJP state chief Kewal Singh Dhillon reached the village, residents gathered to oppose the visit and raised slogans against the political delegation. He noted that the village community refused to allow leaders to turn the family’s loss into a political event.
Expressing similar sentiments, Punjab Minister Dr Balbir Singh stated that the state’s public holds zero tolerance for political maneuvers surrounding moments of grief. He affirmed that the opposition leaders displayed a lack of genuine sympathy toward the bereaved Dalit family.
Dr Balbir Singh declared that political figures must recognize the ethical boundaries expected by the electorate. He added that the people of Punjab will continue to reject opportunistic political conduct that disregards community values and family dignity.
