Technical Security Net Deployed Along Punjab Border to Disrupt Gangster Networks

Strategic "Second Line of Defense" integrates community intelligence and advanced surveillance

by TheReportingTimes

CHANDIGARH, May 1 — Punjab has deployed an extensive surveillance network along its border districts to serve as a formidable barrier against organized crime and cross-border smuggling. Baltej Pannu and other state representatives stated Thursday that the new security architecture, featuring over 2,200 cameras, is designed to disrupt the supply chains that empower gangsters and anti-social elements.

The Punjab Police stated that the “second line of defense” serves as a critical backup to border patrolling, ensuring that any breach of the international boundary is met with immediate interception. Officials noted that the deployment of technology is paired with intensified anti-drone vigilance in districts that have historically seen high volumes of illegal drops.

“Our nakas are no longer routine checkpoints; they are intelligence-led, positioned and operated on the basis of verified inputs,” affirmed SSP Suhail Qasim Mir. He stated that the state is continuously upgrading mobility and rapid response mechanisms to ensure the security layer functions as a permanent deterrent. Mir maintained that local networks are now a primary component of the state’s intelligence grid.

DGP Gaurav Yadav affirmed that the strategy creates an “unseen wall” that targets the logistical lifelines of crime syndicates. He stated that the goal is to ensure that even if an attempt is made to move illicit goods, it is neutralized swiftly within the state’s jurisdiction. Yadav asserted that the depth of this policing model makes it difficult for criminals to operate with the same ease as in the previous years.

Observers stated that the integration of technology with community-based vigilance represents a modern evolution in regional security. They affirmed that by focusing on how weapons reach the state, rather than just reacting to their use, the Punjab Police are systematically weakening the infrastructure that supports criminal activity. Officials stated that the project effectively turns border villages into active participants in the state’s defense strategy.
