MANSA, May 9 — Authorities in Mansa are investigating the death of national-level boxer Navdeep Singh, whose body was discovered Friday afternoon. The 20-year-old athlete, a resident of Municipal Ward No. 3, is suspected to have died from a narcotics overdose, prompting police to file a case against unknown individuals.
The deceased had established a promising career in sports, winning top honors in the 2024 “Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan” and the Punjab State Senior Kickboxing Championship. His father, Jaspal Singh, affirmed that his only son was the victim of a drug overdose and has urged the administration to target those distributing illegal substances in the area.
According to family statements, Navdeep had been working in Rara Sahib, Ludhiana, and had only been home for three days before the fatal incident. They stated that he failed to return after leaving for the market on Thursday. His body was eventually located near Arya School, an area that has since seen increased police activity.
Inspector Gurtej Singh, SHO of Mansa City-2, declared that the police have initiated a detailed inquiry based on the father’s complaint. He affirmed that the department is committed to identifying the individuals who may have provided the lethal dose. The tragedy occurred during a period of high administrative presence in the city, as state leadership held public events just a short distance from where the young medalist was found.
