SRINAGAR, MAY 26 — Mainstream socio-political leaders and intellectuals have expressed support for the ongoing constitutional engagement in neighboring Ladakh while recommending a similar dialogue framework for Jammu and Kashmir.

During a convention in Srinagar, the Jammu Kashmir WAVE forum welcomed the in-principle administrative understanding regarding Article 371 provisions for Ladakh, describing it as an encouraging step toward democratic recognition. The group stated that a parallel, structured consultation with the stakeholders of Jammu and Kashmir is essential to protect local job security, land ownership patterns, and cultural identity.

“This is an encouraging move towards the democratic recognition of the unique cultural, geographical, ecological and socio-economic sensitivities of Ladakh,” the organization noted in its official briefing papers.

The meeting brought together several notable public figures, including former MLA Shoaib Nabi Lone and former AIP political affairs chairman Ishtiyaq Qadri. The speakers maintained that protective legal mechanisms, matching those utilized in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, remain crucial for long-term regional stability and economic confidence.

The panel focused significantly on pressing rural distress, urging the government to execute immediate agrarian relief measures. The forum recommended a structural waiver or restructuring of existing Kisan Credit Card loans to assist economically vulnerable farming families facing unexpected crop deficits.

“JK WAVE further emphasized that sustainable peace, stability, development and public confidence in Jammu and Kashmir can only be strengthened through inclusive public participation,” the members affirmed.

The resolution concluded with calls for the stabilization of the casual workforce through systematic regularization policies. The group also asked the administration to consider the release of innocent detainees against whom no major charges exist, characterizing the step as a necessary measure for social healing and public harmony.
