CHANDIGARH, JUNE 4 — The Punjab government has initiated a broad review of public sector labor concerns, with Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema directing top administrative officials on Wednesday to fast-track the resolution of pending union issues.
The directive came during a marathon session of meetings in Chandigarh, where Cheema met with five distinct labor delegations. The Finance Minister reviewed a detailed memorandum from the Punjab State Ministerial Services Union, which outlined systemic challenges faced by clerical and ministerial staff throughout the state.
“The Cabinet Sub-Committee is actively working to bridge gaps and create a supportive environment for employees across all state cadres,” Cheema affirmed, describing the ongoing efforts to streamline communication between the state and its workforce.
The ministerial union detailed specific workforce issues spanning a wide range of state operations, including the education, finance, excise, and cooperative departments. Representatives from district administrative offices, the Commissioner’s office, ITIs, and the soil and water conservation department also brought forward specialized grievances.
Cheema met individually with leaders from the Computer Adhiypak Union, the Lal Jhanda Mid-Day Meal Workers Union, the Bazigar Vanjara Samaj Sangharsh Committee, and the Water Supply and Sanitation Workers Union to ensure each sector received direct attention.
Following the separate hearings, the Finance Minister mandated that departmental leaders immediately evaluate the legitimacy of the claims and implement swift solutions.
“The Punjab Government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann remains firmly committed to the welfare of employees,” Cheema maintained, adding that genuine structural concerns would be addressed without unnecessary delays.
