New Delhi, June 6: Thousands of demonstrators gathered in the national capital on Saturday as social activist Sonam Wangchuk joined a massive Cockroach Janta Party rally demanding the immediate resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over alleged examination discrepancies. The protest saw heightened tensions, prompting the Delhi Police to detain six individuals to prevent a confrontation between rival groups.
The massive turnout, comprised mostly of students and young professionals, turned the central protest site into a focal point for nationwide accountability demands.
“Protests will be intensified across the country,” Abhijeet Dipke, the founder of the Cockroach Janta Party, declared while issuing a 5 pm ultimatum for the minister’s resignation.
Security forces remained on high alert throughout the day to monitor the interactions between the demonstrators and groups opposing the online movement. Police officials noted that the preventive detentions were made to help ensure the demonstration concluded peacefully without any major law-and-order issues.
The six individuals were moved to local stations when security personnel spotted them attempting to disrupt the gathering. Law enforcement agencies later affirmed that no injuries or violent incidents were reported, confirming that the situation remained under control through the conclusion of the event.
