Rohtak, June 24: The local sports fraternity is mourning the untimely demise of a 15-year-old female canoeist who drowned in a large community pond in Karontha village on Monday. The teenager reportedly ran into difficulties while swimming in the water basin directly after completing her evening training drills.

Fellow young athletes active in the vicinity noticed the struggle and reacted swiftly to extract her from the deep end of the pond. Despite their immediate response and rapid transport to the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS) in Rohtak, medical professionals confirmed she had already succumbed.

“According to reports, Maya regularly practiced in the village pond every morning and evening,” an administrative representative affirmed during the initial review. The sportswoman had established a strict routine at the natural venue to hone her canoeing skills.

The Shivaji Colony police department has taken charge of the documentation and completed the necessary legal protocols. The remains were returned to the athlete’s parents on Tuesday afternoon following the medical evaluation.

“Preliminary findings suggest drowning,” investigating officer Mamtesh maintained while discussing the ongoing inquiry. The official stated that absolute confirmation regarding the sequence of events will depend entirely on the final findings submitted by forensic experts.
