Chandigarh, June 24: A month-long house-to-house enumeration drive will begin across Punjab on June 25 as part of the state’s Special Intensive Revision process for electoral rolls. The initiative is structured to update voter details thoroughly before the definitive electoral registry is made public at the start of October.
The state election department has already concluded significant groundwork ahead of the launch. During a multi-party briefing in Chandigarh, authorities shared updated statistics regarding voter connectivity and discussed specific strategies to verify residents who are not yet fully documented in the system.
“Nearly 86 per cent of Punjab’s voters have already been mapped,” Chief Electoral Officer Anindita Mitra stated during the interaction. She declared that lists containing information on unmapped voters have been handed over to the respective political parties to expedite the pending verifications.
The administrative roadmap indicates that thousands of specialized field personnel will be deployed to interface directly with families over the coming weeks. Alongside the collection of enumeration documents, local authorities will focus on optimizing the geographic distribution of polling venues through July 24.
Following the field phase, a preliminary draft of the updated roll will be made accessible to the public on August 3, opening a month-long window for the submission of formal corrections or disputes.
“Objections and claims can be submitted from August 2 to September 2,” Mitra affirmed, adding that the resolution process would be completed by September 9. The Chief Electoral Officer asserted that the state administration is fully prepared to handle the verification phase with high efficiency and absolute transparency.
