CHANDIGARH, JULY 30 — A maritime union has issued an urgent appeal for the rescue of 13 Indian sailors currently stranded aboard the merchant ship M.V. AMIR1 in Ukraine’s Chornomorsk port. Citing intense military activity in the surrounding airspace, union representatives affirmed that the crew faces immediate safety risks as nearby explosions continue to impact port operations.
The union maintained that swift coordination between international shipping registries, vessel operators, and central authorities remains critical to secure safe passage for the crew.
“Indian seafarers must not be left as sitting targets in conflict zones. Act now,” asserted the Forward Seamen’s Union of India.
The incident highlights growing hazards facing commercial shipping along southern trade routes. With multiple merchant vessels encountering disruptions off Ukraine’s coastline in recent weeks, maritime organizations continue to call for prioritized protection and expedited evacuation measures for civilian seafarers.
