Chandigarh, July 31: State police authorities in Punjab have deployed three high-tech anti-drone defense systems to establish secondary aerial checkpoints aimed at shooting down hostile drones flying in from Pakistan. Operating over a 210-kilometer border sector, the newly formed “hawai nakas” supplement primary zero-line patrolling conducted by the Border Security Force, creating multi-layered airspace protection.
DGP Gaurav Yadav affirmed that contraband transportation has largely shifted away from traditional physical fence crossings toward organized drone drops designed for rapid collection by ground couriers. He stated that counter-measures are executed through seamless inter-agency collaboration between the state police, border guards, military forces, and intelligence setups.
Statistical updates provided by law enforcement highlight a sharp rise in aerial interception metrics across border districts. While 2025 saw 313 drone recoveries alongside 385.119 kg of confiscated heroin, operations through late July 2026 netted 161 drones and 392.355 kg of heroin, reflecting intensified surveillance along the state’s 553-kilometer international border.
