Mumbai, August 5: The Bombay High Court has issued strong instructions to digital giants Meta, Google LLC, and X Corp, ordering the immediate removal of offensive posts circulating against Union Minister Nitin Gadkari. Taking a firm stance on digital accountability, Justice Doctor noted during proceedings that given the sophisticated technology at their disposal, tech firms must maintain trigger systems that auto-delete vulgar or venomous posts before citizens are forced into litigation. The court declared the impugned content vile, obscene, and derogatory, ordering an immediate cleanup across all digital avenues.
The court established a direct takedown mechanism, ruling that future instances of manipulated media or artificial intelligence deepfakes can be reported directly to the platforms by the minister for prompt removal. This legal development follows permission granted to Gadkari to seek interim injunctions against defamatory campaigns affecting him and his family. Petition details presented by advocate Sandeep S Ladda asserted that malicious entities maliciously used the minister’s likeness to spread false allegations regarding the E20 ethanol initiative. The petition affirmed that these baseless assertions falsely claimed improper financial benefits, severely compromising the minister’s right to dignity. While consumer discussions continue around the transition to E20 fuel, Gadkari has declared that the official policy is backed by thorough testing. Respondent companies have been granted four weeks to submit their reply affidavits.
