CHANDIGARH — Following the conclusion of student union elections at Panjab University, AAP-affiliated student group ASAP stated that it will seek judicial intervention from the Punjab and Haryana High Court to set aside the election of ABVP candidate Ankit Bidhan. Organization members declared that the university administration allowed the election to move forward despite receiving prior formal complaints detailing alleged disqualifications under established student union election norms.
Group representatives maintained that Lyngdoh Committee guidelines require strict verification of every candidate’s academic and disciplinary standing. ASAP leaders asserted that Bidhan had previously failed examinations during his law degree and faced disciplinary action that debarred him from the campus. Representatives further questioned the documentation used to secure his subsequent doctoral admission, declaring that an independent investigation should have preceded the voting process.
The student collective affirmed that administrative assurances given prior to the election were not fulfilled before ballots were cast. “How can the result of an election where candidature was questioned before the elections be considered valid without an inquiry?” group spokespersons declared. Leaders affirmed that administrative silence during the process created unequal standards for different political organizations.
The upcoming petition will ask the High Court to scrutinize the candidate’s eligibility documents and issue appropriate orders on the election outcome. Group leaders affirmed that their appeal focuses on administrative accountability and ensuring equal application of university election codes for all student candidates.
