SAS Nagar, September 1: The Punjab government is working to strengthen the network of Anganwadi centres and improve services for women and children, Mohali MLA Kulwant Singh said while distributing appointment letters to 30 newly recruited Anganwadi Helpers here on Monday.
The appointment letters were handed over to the newly selected helpers at the MLA’s office in Sector 79, Mohali. Kulwant Singh congratulated them and urged them to work with commitment and integrity while giving priority to the welfare of women and children.
The MLA said the government would upgrade existing Anganwadi centres in the coming days and establish new centres wherever necessary. Strengthening the Anganwadi network, he said, would help ensure improved delivery of services to women and children.
Kulwant Singh also used the occasion to highlight the Punjab government’s employment initiatives, stating that more than 70,000 youths had been provided government jobs during the tenure of the Bhagwant Singh Mann-led government.
He said the recruitments had been carried out on the basis of merit and without discrimination, recommendation or bribery. According to him, the government had achieved this milestone in approximately four-and-a-half years and would continue to provide employment to eligible youth through a transparent recruitment system.
He added that parallel efforts were being made to generate more employment opportunities in the private sector.
The MLA also outlined developments in healthcare, saying that more than 1,000 Aam Aadmi Clinics had been established across the state. These clinics, he said, were providing free medical consultations, required diagnostic tests and medicines to people.
On education, Kulwant Singh said the government had undertaken a comprehensive programme to improve infrastructure and facilities in government schools. This included providing boundary walls to schools where they were absent and strengthening staffing and modern learning infrastructure.
He said facilities such as LED screens and computers were being introduced to promote technology-enabled education and provide students access to modern learning resources.
