Chandigarh, Sept 17: The Punjab and Haryana High Court issued fresh instructions to state law enforcement agencies to step up monitoring and curb illegal mining operations in Jalandhar, Moga, and Ludhiana.
During the proceedings on the public interest litigation, status reports prepared by Drainage-cum-Mining and Geology Division officials were formally placed on record. Judges affirmed that local administrative heads hold a clear mandate to restrict unauthorized extraction and enforce statutory guidelines without exception. State representatives declared that administrative departments are maintaining strict supervision across riverbed stretches and mining sites. The judicial bench fixed October 8 for further consideration of the matter while granting time for counter-submissions.
