Hoshiarpur, Sept 19: A Fast Track Special Court in Hoshiarpur has sentenced Uttar Pradesh native Nanke Yadav to death for the assault and murder of five-year-old Harveer Singh, concluding legal proceedings initiated after the September 2025 event. Additional Sessions Judge Manpreet Kaur announced the decision after evaluating the circumstances surrounding the offense, with the accused presented through video conference. The court maintained that the evidentiary chain presented by the prosecution proved complete and consistent, establishing the guilt of the accused across multiple legal provisions.
Official details indicate the young child disappeared after accompanying his sister to Gurdwara Baba Deep Singh Sahib. Security camera footage gathered during the probe tracked Yadav transporting the child toward a cremation ground, corroborating statements from eyewitnesses who spotted the two together. Police teams located the victim’s body near Rahimpur on September 10 and gathered physical evidence from the site, which aided in securing the suspect’s arrest on the same day.
The court declared that the case fell into the rarest of rare category after reviewing the severity of the crime and the convict’s earlier criminal record in his home state. While passing sentence under Section 103 of the BNS along with concurrent terms under the POCSO Act, the judge affirmed that aggravating factors clearly overrode any mitigating considerations. The execution of the capital punishment remains pending final confirmation from the High Court.
