Delhi: The Congress on Monday promised Rs 2500 monthly allowances to women in Delhi if the party wins the 2025 assembly elections. Earlier, the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) had promised Rs 2,100 monthly allowances to women, if it is voted to power for the fourth consecutive term.
Congress leader and Karnataka deputy chief minister D K Shivkumar and Delhi Congress chief Devender Yadav unveiled what the party called the ‘Pyari Didi Yojana’ at a press conference at the Delhi Congress office and said that the monthly allowances will enable the women to fight high inflation caused by a “useless government.”
“The Congress government in Karnataka has already started providing Rs 2,000 monthly allowance to women in Karnataka. Similarly, we will also provide the allowance in Delhi when the Congress forms the government,” said Yadav.

For the 70 assembly seats in Delhi, the Congress has so far named 48 candidates; the remaining candidates will probably be revealed shortly.
AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal declared on December 18 that the Delhi cabinet has approved a plan to give underprivileged women in the nation’s capital Rs 1,000 per month. The payout would be increased to Rs 2,100 following the 2025 assembly elections.
This occurred about three weeks after women-focused cash transfer programs played a major role in the success of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM)-led INDIA alliance in the Jharkhand polls and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the Maharashtra elections.
Since the current assembly’s term ends on February 23, elections for the 70 seats in Delhi are probably going to take place in February of this year.
The polling timetable will probably be revealed shortly.
In 2020 in the 70-member Delhi assemby, the AAP secured 62 seats while the BJP secured 8. With four of its members having resigned or been disqualified, the AAP currently has 58 seats, while the BJP has seven following the resignation of Ramvir Singh Bidhuri in June, the sitting BJP MLA from Badarpur, after he was elected to the Lok Sabha from south Delhi.
