Fans turn to VPNs to access Hania Aamir’s Account

by TheReportingTimes

NEW DELHI, May 4: In the wake of the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed 26 civilian lives, the Indian government has geo-blocked Instagram accounts of several prominent Pakistani celebrities, including Hania Aamir, Mahira Khan, Ali Zafar, Sanam Saeed, Bilal Abbas, Iqra Aziz, Imran Abbas, and Sajal Aly.

Indian users attempting to view these profiles are met with the message: “Account not available in India. This content has been restricted in response to a legal request.”

Despite the restrictions, fans in India have found ways to stay connected with their favourite artists using VPN services. Among those gaining widespread support is actress Hania Aamir, who responded emotionally to fans expressing solidarity.

One follower wrote, “Don’t worry, humne VPN subscription liya hai apke liye,” to which Aamir replied, “Ro doongi… Love you.”

The digital blackout is part of a wider set of retaliatory steps initiated by India following the Pahalgam attack, which has been attributed to Pakistan-based terrorist groups.

Government sources confirmed that India has also banned 16 Pakistani YouTube channels for allegedly promoting provocative and anti-national content.

In addition to the online clampdown, India has suspended several bilateral mechanisms with Pakistan, including the Indus Waters Treaty, visa issuance, trade relations, and Pakistani air traffic access over Indian airspace. Certain exports have also been halted.

The moves signal a comprehensive diplomatic and economic response aimed at tightening pressure on Pakistan in the aftermath of one of the deadliest terror incidents in recent years.
