CHANDIGARH, May 19 – In a coordinated counter-intelligence breakthrough, police in Punjab and Haryana have arrested multiple individuals accused of passing sensitive military information to Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), officials said on Monday.
In Punjab’s Gurdaspur district, two suspects—Sukhpreet Singh and Karanbir Singh—were arrested on May 15 for allegedly leaking strategic military data, including troop movements under Operation Sindoor, to Pakistan. The classified information reportedly pertained to areas in Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu and Kashmir.
“Credible intelligence suggested that the accused were in direct contact with ISI handlers,” Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said. “They were transmitting vital operational details, thereby compromising national security.”
Following the tip-off, police carried out swift arrests. Forensic examination of their devices validated the intelligence inputs. Authorities recovered three mobile phones and eight live cartridges (.30 bore) during the operation.
The First Information Report (FIR) has been registered at Dorangla police station under the Official Secrets Act. “The investigation is ongoing and we expect further revelations as the probe progresses,” the DGP added.
Emphasizing the state’s commitment, Yadav said, “Punjab Police stands shoulder to shoulder with the Indian Army. Any threat to the security of our armed forces will be met with decisive action.”
This case follows a similar arrest in Malerkotla on May 8, where Guzala and Yameen Mohammad were detained for allegedly supplying military information to Ehsan-ur-Rahim alias Danish, an employee of the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi.
“These individuals received money through online channels in exchange for details about Indian Army movements,” Yadav said. They have been charged under Section 152 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Sections 3, 4, and 5 of the Official Secrets Act.
Meanwhile, in neighbouring Haryana, a widening net has led to more arrests. Among those detained is Jyoti Malhotra, a travel vlogger from Hisar, who allegedly participated in espionage activities linked to Pakistani operatives.
Haryana DGP Shatrujeet Kapoor confirmed the arrests and attributed the developments to intensified surveillance measures following Operation Sindoor.
“We have raised our guard and escalated vigilance across the state,” Kapoor said. “The law enforcement response has been robust, and further scrutiny continues.”
Authorities in both states have reaffirmed their resolve to neutralize threats emanating from cross-border intelligence operations, especially those targeting India’s armed forces.
