Jalandhar: Demonstrations were organized by the Aam Aadmi Party in Jalandhar and Pathankot district against proposed charges on select UPI merchant transactions. Led by senior party figure Pawan Kumar Tinu, party supporters gathered in public spaces to demand an immediate review of the policy. Addressing attendees, Tinu stated that small shopkeepers, traders, and everyday users have incorporated digital payment methods into their daily routines following sustained official encouragement, making subsequent fee additions an additional strain on local commerce.
The party maintained that digital payment infrastructure should remain accessible without additional operational costs for merchants and consumers. AAP leaders declared that the organization will maintain its public advocacy against the fee structure, stating that protests would expand across districts to highlight the financial impact on small businesses and students.
Addressing state governance matters alongside the economic protests, AAP representatives highlighted the administration’s ongoing initiatives against illegal drug networks. Party spokespersons affirmed that joint community and administrative actions under the state government continue to produce tangible results in curbing illegal trade and supporting regional youth development.
