Kohima, July 14: An Assam Rifles soldier lost his life and four of his colleagues were injured on Monday during a suspected improvised explosive device attack near Sukhovi in Nagaland. The blast struck a vehicle belonging to the security convoy as it moved through the territory.
“Security agencies are actively examining the site to determine the nature of the device used,” an official declared, confirming that a large-scale area domination operation is underway to secure the vicinity.
The attack has renewed deep concerns regarding insurgent activities across the northeastern states. This comes just days after a July 6 ambush in Manipur’s Ukhrul district, where suspected militants fired upon another convoy. That incident claimed the lives of Warrant Officer Balwant Singh and Rifleman C.M. Singh after a heavy exchange of fire.
Historically, the paramilitary unit has been a frequent target for armed groups due to its extensive role in counter-insurgency operations. Last November, another routine patrol in Manipur’s Tengnoupal district near the India-Myanmar border came under sudden fire, leaving four soldiers injured near Saibol village.
In light of the consecutive strikes, patrol teams have intensified surveillance and defensive measures across key border areas. Investigators are working to piece together the connection between the recent ambushes as operations continue to locate the hidden attackers.
