Faridkot, June 26: A routine highway patrol by specialized police units led to the arrest of a husband and wife accused of running a major cross-border drug supply operation in Punjab. The duo was intercepted on a strategic link road by the Faridkot Police’s CIA and Counter Intelligence teams.
The arrested handlers, who originally hail from Jind in Haryana, had been actively transporting contraband into multiple border sectors. Initial background checks revealed that the male suspect is a habitual offender with multiple active narcotics cases already registered against him.
The administration has launched a deeper inquiry into the smuggling network to locate the source of the illicit shipments. “He already faces two prior criminal cases related to drug smuggling under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act,” a senior department representative declared during the post-arrest briefing.
Following the recovery, the Kotkapura Sadar Police invoked strict provisions of the NDPS Act against both individuals. Senior officers asserted that police remand has been successfully secured to facilitate intensive questioning, which aims to dismantle the broader distribution chain operating across state lines.
