Ontario, Sept 20: A lawsuit seeking the recovery of more than $13 million has been brought against two prominent Ontario-based gurdwaras following credit arrangements linked to former MP Rajvinder Grewal’s legal firm.
Court filings submitted to the Ontario Superior Court indicate that private lending firms advanced substantial capital against real estate assets held by the Sikh Spiritual Centre Toronto and the Nanaksar Thath Ishar Darbar in Brampton. The plaintiffs contend that required procedural charges were left incomplete by the facilitating firm, resulting in default and unresolved financial balances.
The court has placed temporary restrictions on the Brampton facility to prevent any transfer or encumbrance until the matter is formally evaluated next year. While legal representatives associated with the former parliamentarian indicated that discussions were held regarding a resolution, counsel for the lenders confirmed that the civil proceedings before the court remain ongoing. Both institutions continue to operate their charitable and community functions as the judicial process unfolds.
