Chandigarh, July 20: Sustained law enforcement operations under the Yudh Nashian Virudh initiative led to the recovery of 319 crore rupees in illegal properties and the arrest of tens of thousands of drug offenders across Punjab. Reaching the 500-day milestone, the state police force reaffirmed its commitment to shutting down organized syndicates through intelligence-led operations.
Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav maintained that high-quality evidence collection and close coordination with legal prosecutors enabled Punjab to achieve an 89 percent conviction rate in narcotics cases, the highest in the country. He stated that the dual focus on prosecuting major suppliers and offering rehabilitation to individuals seeking recovery ensures a balanced approach. Over 10,000 people took advantage of provisions allowing treatment over prison sentences.
Addressing financial enforcement, ADGP Nilabh Kishore declared that confiscating properties acquired through illicit trade serves as a key deterrent against organized crime. He noted that dismantling illegal wealth and unauthorized structures built on public land sends an unequivocal message regarding the state’s stance on narcotics trafficking.
Community policing mechanisms played a key role, with the Safe Punjab helpline handling over 46,000 tips that led to more than 22,000 arrests. Supported by 1.25 lakh members across local Village Defence Committees, the state police continue to run interactive sports events and awareness campaigns to safeguard youth and sustain long-term progress.
