New Delhi, July 22: The Supreme Court declined to grant an expedited hearing into police conduct during recent student demonstrations in the capital, joining the Delhi High Court in advising against involving the bench in ongoing political controversies. Chief Justice Surya Kant declined requests to inspect video recordings of law enforcement actions during the July 20 march.
Counsel representing student interests requested the court to take suo motu cognizance of examination leak allegations and administrative reforms involving the National Testing Agency. The bench declined to disrupt its daily cause list, maintaining that procedural rules must be strictly adhered to.
The agitation stems from the Cockroach Janta Party, a digital-first movement that expanded into widespread physical demonstrations demanding the resignation of the Union Education Minister. Tensions at the site heightened after police cleared stage structures following clashes during the Parliament march.
Judicial authorities reiterated that legal processes cannot be bypassed for political momentum, signaling that petitions regarding police deployment will proceed strictly through standard filing channels.
“Keep the judiciary away from political battles. The court will not entertain urgent petitions on this matter outside the standard list,” maintained the judicial bench.
The ruling confirms that legal challenges related to the Jantar Mantar incidents will await routine procedural listing.
