Chandigarh, July 16: The Special Investigation Team investigating the twenty fifteen Kotkapura and Behbal Kalan firing cases has issued a formal summons to Shiromani Akali Dal chief Sukhbir Singh Badal. The former Deputy Chief Minister has been directed to join the investigation process on Monday.
The decision to summon Badal was prompted by statements from other political figures linked to the case. Investigators declared that a review of a memorandum submitted to the Punjab Governor revealed discrepancies, with key political figures questioning the validity of the signatures attached to the official document.
The core focus of the inquiry is to establish who authorized the use of force against the public during the protests over the sacrilege of the Guru Granth Sahib. Witnesses from the previous administration affirmed that key orders to disperse the crowd were dispatched overnight, creating a clear timeline of administrative actions leading up to the confrontation.
Police sources declared that statements from senior bureaucratic aides and former legislators are being cross-referenced to establish accountability. The probe seeks to resolve contradictions regarding who held operational command during the incident, which remains a highly sensitive issue in Punjab’s public and political landscape.
