Sultanpur Lodhi, June 7: Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar Panchal launched the second phase of the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign with enthusiasm by planting a mango sapling at the PWD Rest House in Sultanpur Lodhi.
Calling for collective action to protect the planet, DC Panchal said, “Safeguarding our environment is a shared responsibility. We must act today to ensure a cleaner, greener world for future generations.” He appealed to citizens to dedicate a tree to their parents and nurture it, forging a deeper personal and emotional connection with nature.
Under this green initiative, the Kapurthala district administration has set an ambitious goal of planting 9.5 lakh saplings during the upcoming monsoon season. To make public participation easier, the Forest Department will distribute free saplings from nurseries located in Kapurthala city, Phagwara, Sultanpur Lodhi, and Dhilwan.
In a special appeal to the farming community, DC Panchal urged farmers to plant saplings near tubewells during the ongoing paddy season, promoting synergy between agriculture and environmental sustainability.
The campaign also witnessed the participation of Additional Deputy Commissioner Navneet Kaur Bal and Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Varinderpal Singh Bajwa, who planted saplings at the District Administrative Complex, underlining the administration’s commitment to ecological conservation.
