Hoshiarpur, August 2: A 12-year-old boy was killed and eight others injured after a car overturned following a collision with a motorcycle carrying three snatchers fleeing the scene of a robbery in Punjab’s Hoshiarpur district on Friday night.
The incident took place near Possi village, under Garhshankar subdivision, when the bike—ridden by robbers who had just snatched earrings from a woman—rammed into a car coming from the opposite side, police said on Saturday.
“The deceased child has been identified as Karanjot Singh,” said Mahilpur SHO Ramandeep Kaur. “Five persons travelling in the car, including the boy, were injured. The motorcycle riders were also hurt in the crash.”
The injured from the car were identified as Lovepreet Singh, Anu, Sonia Rani, Jugraj Singh and Harpreet Singh, all residents of Dhade Kalan village. They were taken to Garhshankar Civil Hospital. Two of them, in critical condition, were later referred to hospitals in Hoshiarpur.
Among the three snatchers, two were identified as Rahul Kumar and Rohan, residents of Chabbewal. The identity of the third accomplice is yet to be confirmed. All three have been hospitalised.
According to police, the robbery occurred minutes before the crash. “Amandeep Kaur and her husband Ranjit Singh, residents of Paddi Sura Singh village, were on their scooter when the snatchers intercepted them near Moranwali village. They forcibly took off Kaur’s earrings and fled,” the SHO said.
A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
