Rohtak, Sept 17 — Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Wednesday launched a series of public welfare activities in Rohtak to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 75th birthday, beginning with a symbolic cleanliness campaign and culminating in a drug awareness marathon.

Arriving early at Subhash Chowk, Saini kicked off the state-wide “Seva Pakhwada” initiative by sweeping a road near Mansarovar Park with a broom, in a gesture intended to highlight civic responsibility and collective participation in sanitation. The Chief Minister also interacted with sanitation workers, acknowledging what he described as their “hard work and dedication” in keeping the city clean.

In the same park, Saini planted a sapling, underlining the government’s pledge to environmental sustainability. “Planting trees today is investing in the future,” he said. “Let us all take responsibility to protect our environment, not just during this fortnight but every day.”

The day’s activities expanded beyond sanitation and ecology. Saini later flagged off the “Nasha Mukt Abhiyan Marathon,” an awareness run against drug abuse that saw participation from students, residents, and social activists. The marathon, aimed at sensitizing youth about the dangers of addiction, wound its way through the city and concluded at the entrance of Maharshi Dayanand University.

Addressing the gathering, Saini said the government was working on multiple fronts to tackle the drug problem. “The state government is working relentlessly to root out the drug menace from Haryana, and such public events play a vital role in spreading awareness at the grassroots level,” he remarked.

Officials noted that the dual focus on sanitation and drug prevention reflected both community health and social reform goals, aligning with the spirit of “Seva Pakhwada.”
