Mandhana Wins ICC Women’s Player of the Month for September

by TheReportingTimes

Dubai, October 16: India’s vice-captain and opener Smriti Mandhana has been named the ICC Women’s Player of the Month for September 2025, capping off a dominant run of form ahead of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced that Mandhana edged past Pakistan’s Sidra Amin and South Africa’s Tazmin Brits to claim the monthly accolade, which recognises outstanding individual performances in international cricket.

Mandhana, who was in sensational touch throughout the month, said she was delighted to be recognised for her efforts. “I am truly honoured to receive the ICC Women’s Player of the Month award for September 2025. My aim has always been to deliver my best and win matches for the team,” she said. “I look forward to making the most of the opportunities ahead and helping India achieve memorable victories.”

Her performances during the three-match ODI series against Australia were a major factor in her selection. The left-hander produced two stunning centuries in the high-intensity series and was named Player of the Series. Over four ODI appearances in September, she piled up 308 runs at an average of 77 and a strike rate of 135.68 — numbers that underline her consistency and aggression at the top of the order.

Mandhana’s most remarkable knock came in the series decider against Australia, when she blazed her way to a 50-ball hundred — the second-fastest century ever scored in Women’s One-Day Internationals.

The 29-year-old’s prolific form also took her tally of ODI hundreds to 13, placing her joint-second on the all-time list alongside New Zealand’s Suzie Bates and just behind Australia’s Meg Lanning.

As India prepares for the upcoming World Cup, Mandhana’s performance and confidence will be key to the team’s campaign. Her latest recognition, ICC officials noted, reflects not just her individual brilliance but also the momentum India carries into the global tournament.
