Shimla, October 18 – Himachal Pradesh is set for another spell of light snowfall in its higher reaches on October 21 and 22, the State Meteorological Department said, days after the state witnessed the first snowfall of the season in early October.
A “feeble Western Disturbance” is expected to affect the western Himalayas from October 21, bringing light snowfall and scattered rainfall to districts including Chamba, Kinnaur, and Lahaul and Spiti, the department noted. “While higher altitudes will see snow, the rest of the state is likely to remain dry during this period,” a department official said.
Earlier this week, Himachal experienced mostly dry weather, with minimum temperatures ranging from 1°C to 20°C, about 2°C to 4°C above normal, and maximum temperatures between 16°C and 35°C, exceeding seasonal averages by 2°C to 3°C.
Shimla recorded a maximum of 24°C, Dharamsala 27°C, and Manali 21.8°C, while other towns reported highs of 29°C in Solan and Nahan, 30.1°C in Kangra and Hamirpur, and 26.4°C in Mandi. Coldest spots included Keylong at 0.8°C and Narkanda at 17.8°C. Una was the hottest town with a maximum of 33°C.
The department advised residents and tourists to prepare for the brief winter spell, particularly in higher altitudes where snowfall could affect travel and outdoor activities.
