NEW DELHI, AUGUST 26: India has pledged comprehensive humanitarian aid and operational support to Nepal following a devastating flood surge that swept across the mountainous Rasuwa district bordering Tibet. Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached out to Nepalese Prime Minister Balen Shah via telephone, affirming India’s unwavering commitment to support its neighbor through emergency relief and rehabilitation efforts.
Expressing sorrow over the tragic event, Prime Minister Narendra Modi maintained that India stands side by side with Nepal in this hour of crisis. He declared that civil and emergency authorities are maintaining active coordination to assist local rescue machinery in the flood-affected zones. He asserted that India is prepared to extend all necessary logistical, medical, and material aid required by Nepalese authorities.
The sudden deluge destroyed settlements, bridges, and infrastructure along the river valley, causing at least eight confirmed fatalities alongside significant disruption to cross-border transit. Simultaneously, heavy mudslides on the Tibetan side of the border in Gyirong county caused serious casualties and damaged key land routes connecting the two countries.
Nepalese Prime Minister Balen Shah stated that emergency administrative steps have been implemented to relocate vulnerable populations from low-lying areas to safe shelters. Both leaders affirmed that bilateral coordination mechanisms will remain active around the clock until relief operations stabilize across the border region.
