Head Granthi challenges SGPC with 72-hour deadline

Giani Raghbir Singh claims possession of evidence in corruption row

Amritsar, Feb 22: Darbar Sahib Head Granthi Giani Raghbir Singh has intensified his standoff with the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) by issuing a formal 72-hour counter-ultimatum to the religious panel. This development comes as a direct response to the SGPC’s earlier demand for written proof regarding allegations of corruption and mismanagement linked to the committee and the Badal family.

During a public address today, the former Akal Takht Jathedar declared that the burden of accountability now rests with the SGPC leadership. He asserted that the committee must explain the systemic irregularities that have surfaced within the organization. Giani Raghbir Singh affirmed that he is fully prepared to present documents and evidence to the Sikh community to substantiate the claims he made during his recent press conference in Jalandhar.

The Head Granthi stated that the practice of issuing notices to those who raise valid concerns is unjustified, especially when the administration has a history of internal errors. He noted that the primary goal of his campaign is to ensure institutional transparency rather than targeting specific officials. “The fight is aimed at maintaining the sanctity of our religious bodies,” Giani Raghbir Singh declared, adding that he remains committed to his stance despite the administrative pressure.

Official sources within the SGPC had previously set a deadline for the Head Granthi to substantiate his claims, but the new counter-ultimatum has shifted the focus back onto the committee’s internal affairs. Giani Raghbir Singh maintained that his absence from the state delayed his formal response, but he asserted that his resolve to expose the truth remains unchanged. The religious community now awaits the SGPC’s next move as the 72-hour window begins.
