Ferozpur, March 14: Gangster Ashish Chopra has been sent to four-day police custody till March 17 following his appearance in a Ferozepur court on Friday. The arrest and subsequent remand are linked to a brutal triple-murder case that shook the region last year when three members of a family were gunned down in broad daylight.
Authorities declared that Chopra was apprehended at the Delhi airport through a coordinated effort between the Punjab Police and central intelligence agencies. After being transported to Ferozepur amid tight security on Thursday night, the police presented him before Chief Judicial Magistrate Anoop Singh to secure his remand.
The investigation pertains to a September 2023 shooting where six assailants on motorcycles allegedly targeted a group of youths, firing nearly 50 bullets. The victims of the massacre were identified as Akasdeep Singh, Jaspreet Kaur, and Dildeep Singh. Police officials asserted that Chopra’s involvement is a significant focus of the ongoing probe.
“Interrogating the suspect is necessary to establish the full sequence of events and the roles played by the other named accused,” a police official declared.
Along with Chopra, the police have named several others in the FIR, including Sukhchain Singh alias Jass Giani and Happy Mall. Investigators maintained that the arrest marks a major step forward in the case, which has remained a priority for the district administration.
