Chandigarh, April 15: The Punjab Police continued their decisive offensive against organized crime and narcotics on Wednesday, carrying out hundreds of searches at suspected hideouts. On the 85th day of the ‘Gangstran Te Vaar’ mission, 254 suspects were taken into custody following 506 raids conducted across various districts.
The state police department affirmed that the coordinated strikes resulted in the seizure of firearms and the arrest of several individuals with outstanding warrants. Since the campaign was launched by DGP Gaurav Yadav on January 20, the force has maintained a steady momentum, focusing on dismantling the logistical networks of gangsters. Authorities declared that while 254 were held, another 121 persons were questioned and released after their credentials were verified.
“People can anonymously report gangster-related information via the Anti-Gangster Helpline,” officials stated, asserting that community cooperation remains vital for the success of the mission.
Simultaneously, the ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ anti-drug campaign reached its 410th day, with 76 additional smugglers apprehended. The police reported a recovery of 3.3kg of heroin and hundreds of intoxicant tablets. They affirmed that the total number of arrests in the anti-drug drive has surged to nearly 59,000. Beyond enforcement, the police stated that their outreach programs today led 14 people toward rehabilitation services, reinforcing the government’s dual approach of strict policing and social recovery.
