SANGRUR, May 10 —To strengthen state-wide food security, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann launched the ‘Meri Rasoi Yojna’ on Saturday, beginning the distribution of grocery kits to nearly 40 lakh Dalit and poor families. The Chief Minister affirmed that the program is designed to provide tangible relief from inflation by supplying essential cooking ingredients directly to those in need.
Each kit consists of 2 kg of chana dal, 2 kg of sugar, 1 kg of iodized salt, 200 grams of turmeric, and 1 liter of mustard oil. Mann stated that the objective is to ensure no child in the state faces weakness due to a lack of protein or basic nutrition. He asserted that the government has simplified the registration process by moving to photograph-based verification, noting that traditional biometric systems often caused difficulties for elderly citizens and manual laborers whose fingerprints have faded.
The Chief Minister maintained that this food security measure is part of a larger umbrella of welfare schemes, including the ‘Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna’ and ‘Mawan Dheeyan Satkar Yojna.’ He noted that eligible women are currently being registered for monthly financial aid, with Scheduled Caste families receiving ₹1,500 and general category households receiving ₹1,000. Mann asserted that these initiatives are intended to foster financial independence and dignity for women managing household responsibilities.
Regarding agricultural support, Mann stated that the restoration of nearly 14,000 kilometers of canal water channels has significantly improved irrigation while helping to conserve the state’s groundwater. He affirmed that the transition to daytime power supply for farmers has improved their working conditions. The Chief Minister concluded by stating that the journey toward a more prosperous Punjab continues through these integrated efforts in nutrition, healthcare, and infrastructure.
