CHANDIGARH, MAY 26 — Agriculture remains a top priority for the Punjab government as it moves to guarantee more than eight hours of daily electricity for all agricultural pump connections during the upcoming cultivation period.
Power Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond affirmed that the state infrastructure has been fully prepared to support smooth paddy transplantation without any power deficits. Technical teams have been strategically stationed across all districts to oversee grid stability and address local technical failures without delay.
“Dedicated teams of PSPCL officials and technical staff have been deployed across the state for continuous monitoring of the power distribution system,” Sond noted, adding that centralized control rooms have been reinforced to handle grievances quickly. “Special instructions have been issued to field officers to remain available round the clock and ensure immediate redressal of faults, transformer issues and other technical disruptions on priority basis.”
The power distribution will follow a strict regional calendar. The government will supply the mandatory electricity blocks to Gurdaspur, Pathankot, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Rupnagar, SAS Nagar, Fatehgarh Sahib, and Hoshiarpur starting June 1. Cultivators in Faridkot, Bathinda, Ferozepur, Sri Muktsar Sahib, and Fazilka will see their supply begin on June 5, followed by the remaining districts of Ludhiana, Malerkotla, Mansa, Moga, Patiala, Sangrur, Barnala, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, and SBS Nagar on June 9.
The minister stated that advance infrastructure maintenance on major lines has already been executed to eliminate structural vulnerabilities before the peak demand window opens.
“The State Government has accorded top priority to the agriculture sector and all necessary preparations have been completed to facilitate farmers during the paddy season,” Sond declared.
Sond affirmed that the administration is committed to protecting the economic well-being of the farming workforce. He urged agricultural workers to cooperate with the state power utility by adhering strictly to the shared regional timings to help maintain overall grid balance.
