SANGRUR, JULY 28 — A paid conspiracy orchestrated through social media platforms has been uncovered following the arrest of two youths who targeted the BJP office in Sangrur with improvised petrol explosives. The suspects allegedly agreed to execute the attack and transmit video proof to an online handler in exchange for a promised monetary reward, receiving an initial advance of just Rs 2,200 prior to their arrest.
Police records show the attackers arrived on a motorcycle around 2:45 am on Monday, throwing explosives toward a kitchen window where gas cylinders were routinely stored. Although one petrol bomb struck the outer wall and another landed outside without causing casualties, law enforcement officers maintain the intent was to cause severe structural damage.
Sangrur Senior Superintendent of Police Ravjot Grewal affirmed that the suspects were lured through online financial offers.
“It has been revealed from the preliminary interrogation that the perpetrators were in contact with a person named Rana Bhai through social media. He had promised them a large amount of money to carry out this crime and send the video of the incident to him, out of which a total of Rs 2,200 had been sent by Rana Bhai through two transactions,” SSP Ravjot Grewal stated.
Specialist units under AIG Simrat Kaur of Counter Intelligence collaborated with local police divisions to secure the arrest of Happy Singh and Jaspreet Singh, recovering two mobile devices and the vehicle used during the crime.
Grewal declared that investigators are closely examining digital channels to identify the handler. “According to the investigation, the accused had also made a video of the incident so that they could send the video to Rana Bhai and get the said amount from him. The said mobile phones have also been recovered. An investigation is being carried out regarding Rana’s social media accounts and UPI IDs of the transactions made to the accused,” Grewal asserted.
Law enforcement officials maintained that further details regarding the conspiracy will emerge once the accused are presented before the court to secure police custody.
