Pratapgarh, August 6: A tragic structural collapse in Pratapgarh district left six people dead and one injured after continuous downpours weakened a 100-year-old residence overnight.
Rescue operations commenced after Mahuli village residents heard a loud crash between 1 am and 2 am and alerted local authorities, who extracted the occupants from beneath heavy rubble.
“The police and administrative teams responded immediately upon receiving information,” confirmed Circle Officer Ashutosh Mishra, asserting that the bodies have been sent for post-mortem examinations while investigations continue.
The state government announced ex-gratia assistance of ₹4 lakh each for eligible family members to support the survivors. Local administration bodies maintained that immediate steps are being taken to evaluate aging residential structures throughout the region to ensure public safety during adverse weather conditions.
