Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann wrote to Governor Gulab Chand Kataria seeking a 10-day parole for Jagtar Singh Hawara, citing the failing health of Hawara’s elderly mother. The Chief Minister declared that human consideration should guide the decision in light of the medical circumstances surrounding Hawara’s family.

The Chief Minister asserted in his letter that the deteriorating physical condition of Hawara’s mother requires immediate family presence. He affirmed that age-related illnesses have significantly impacted her health, prompting the state administration to advocate for a brief release period.

The communication highlighted that the matter had also come before the judicial system, with Hawara filing a petition in the Punjab and Haryana High Court. The Chief Minister declared that the High Court instructed the administration to consider the parole petition in accordance with procedure.

Reiterating the state’s position, the Chief Minister maintained that granting the requested 10-day period would address the immediate family situation appropriately. He declared that prompt action on humanitarian grounds remains necessary given the medical urgency.
