NEW DELHI, AUGUST 27: India has escalated diplomatic and rescue interventions across Nepal and neighboring Tibet as heavy flooding continues to impact thousands of residents and travelers. The Ministry of External Affairs reported that while 21 Indian nationals have been safely brought to secure locations, rescue teams are actively working to locate 288 citizens who remain uncontactable.
The missing individuals represent diverse groups, including power plant staff at the Trishuli 1 project alongside pilgrimage and tour groups from Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, and Kerala. Emergency helplines and ground liaisons have been established to trace the missing contingents and direct rescue operations.
Diplomatic missions are actively monitoring the situation near the border where secondary landslides have disrupted typical travel routes.
“Some Indian nationals, who had gone for the Amarnath Yatra, are currently stranded on the Chinese side. The Indian embassy in Beijing is ramping up efforts for their safe evacuation,” declared Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal.
He affirmed that official teams are prioritizing the distribution of relief materials and arranging immediate return transportation for all rescued citizens as weather conditions permit.
