Two Fatal Shootings in Amritsar

Amritsar, Sept 18: A wave of sorrow hit Amritsar as two separate firing events resulted in the deaths of a serving police official and a young resident in different areas of the city. Police forces have actively taken up the matters for investigation.

The first incident occurred at approximately three in the morning near the Bhagtanwala grain market under the jurisdiction of Gate Hakima police station. Assistant Sub-Inspector Harjit Singh, originally hailing from Tarn Taran and posted with the Police Control Room, was at work when two motorcycle-borne individuals opened fire. Harjit Singh received three bullet injuries during the attack and was immediately transported to a private healthcare facility, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

Expressing condolences regarding the fallen officer, Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav declared that Harjit Singh displayed immense bravery in the line of duty. He maintained that support for the bereaved family remains a top priority, with the Punjab government providing an ex-gratia sum of one crore rupees alongside an insurance coverage payout of one crore rupees.

Meanwhile, another fatal shooting took place late Thursday night in the Surta Singh area falling under the Islamabad police station. Sahilpreet Singh, a youth living in Harkrishan Nagar, was taking an evening walk after his meal when two unidentified perpetrators on an Activa scooter shot him and rapidly escaped. Local authorities confirmed that formal legal proceedings have been initiated to track down the fleeing suspects.
