Chandigarh, May 4: Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema has attributed a major milestone in the state’s revenue generation to the diligent implementation of advanced monitoring tactics. For April 2026, the state witnessed a ₹230 crore increase in VAT collections and a ₹35 crore rise in PSDT, marking a period of substantial financial progress.

The 23.28 percent growth in VAT and 20.43 percent surge in PSDT were described by the minister as a direct outcome of robust enforcement and a steadfast commitment to fair governance. The Finance Minister noted that the state secured this supplementary revenue without placing undue burdens on compliant citizens.

“The state successfully secured approximately ₹265 crore in combined supplementary revenue from these two sectors,” Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema affirmed. He declared that the achievement was driven by enhanced monitoring mechanisms and a transparent tax administration framework.

Minister Cheema detailed the concurrent success by explaining that the PSDT sector’s positive trends are a reflection of better oversight. He stated that the government has built a framework aimed at protecting government revenue through the use of technology and proactive facilitation.

“I assure the citizens of Punjab that strict actions against tax evasion will continue,” Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema declared. He maintained that the administration will ensure a completely fair and transparent taxation system remains in place while prioritizing the state’s economic interests.
