Lucknow, Sept 18: In a novel initiative targeting women’s safety and economic empowerment, Uttar Pradesh is introducing the ‘Sarathi Didi’ transport framework across the state. The program establishes a women-led ride-hailing system backed by round-the-clock control room oversight and rapid police dispatch capabilities.
Under the proposed plan, women will receive comprehensive skill development to operate commercial cabs, two-wheelers, and e-rickshaws. The initiative integrates Primary Agricultural Credit Societies to bring digital transport and delivery networks to rural communities, connecting villages directly with local markets, hospitals, and transit hubs.
Government representatives affirmed that safety measures—including emergency SOS buttons and continuous GPS tracking—will remain central to the service platform. Authorities stated that combining safe transit options for female passengers with new income-generating opportunities for female drivers aligns with the state’s broader goals for rural connectivity and digital empowerment.
