Bathinda, June 14— A regional criminal network operating from within a state correctional facility has suffered a setback following the arrest of two associates by the Punjab Police Anti-Gangster Task Force. The security operation resulted in the seizure of two country-made firearms and multiple live rounds along the Cantonment Bypass Ring Road in Bathinda.
The state health and security infrastructure, operating under the safe-state framework of the Bhagwant Singh Mann administration, successfully identified the individuals following proactive field scouting. One of the detained men carries a history of prior criminal charges involving attempted murder and weapons violations.
“A team from AGTF Bathinda was on routine patrolling duty when they noticed two suspicious persons sitting in the bushes on the right side of a slip road at the Cantoment Bypass Ring Road in Bathinda,” ADGP Promod Ban declared. “On noticing the police party, both individuals became nervous and attempted to conceal themselves.”
The field team approached the area after observing the suspects trying to evade visibility in the vegetation. A rapid search uncovered two .32 bore pistols alongside five active cartridges concealed on their persons, leading to an immediate arrest.
The suspects, identified as local residents Kuldeep Singh and Abhimaan Singh, are believed to be executing logistics for a jailed gangster running a syndicate across the Ferozepur sector. Authorities maintained that the operation marks a significant disruption in localized weapon distribution.
Legal proceedings have commenced under FIR Number 156 at the Civil Lines Police Station under the Arms Act. DGP Gaurav Yadav asserted that investigators are currently mapping both the source of the weapons and the intended recipients to dismantle the remaining components of the cell.
