TARN TARAN, May 25 — In a continuing crackdown on illicit liquor trade following the Amritsar hooch tragedy, police and Excise Department teams on Friday conducted raids at four separate locations, seizing 380 litres of lahan and 7,500 ml of illicit liquor. One person was arrested, while two others fled the scenes, police said on Sunday.

Acting under the supervision of Excise Officer Inderjit Singh Sehjra, Excise Inspectors Hitesh Prabhakar and Karan Sharma led a raid in Nador village under Patti jurisdiction. The team recovered 250 litres of unclaimed lahan, which was destroyed on the spot, officials confirmed.

In another raid conducted at Pahuwind village under the Bhikhiwind circle, officials seized 50 litres of lahan along with 10 bottles—equivalent to 7,500 ml—of illicit liquor. One of the accused, Ajit Singh, was apprehended on the spot by the excise team.

Meanwhile, Verowal and Khalra police units raided the homes of Rachhapal Singh in Ekal Gadda and Sadha Singh in Narla village, respectively. Both accused managed to escape, but officers recovered 40 litres of lahan from each location.

Four cases have been registered under relevant provisions of the Excise Act against the three identified accused.

Police officials noted the raids are part of an intensified campaign against the illicit liquor network in the district, launched in the wake of the hooch tragedy in Amritsar that claimed at least 30 lives.
