3 Injured in Fresh Campus Clash at SD College-32

by TheReportingTimes

CHANDIGARH, Aug 1 — In a second violent episode at SD College-32 within a week, three students were injured in a brutal midday assault on campus Tuesday, allegedly carried out with sharp-edged weapons. The attack is being linked to ongoing political rivalries ahead of the student council elections, scheduled for early September.

Police said the incident occurred around 12:15 pm near the college canteen, when a group of students — reportedly led by college president Jatanjot Singh Gill and members of the Student Democratic Collective Union (SDCU) — launched a sudden assault on three students seated in the area.

The accused, including Navleen Sidhu, Navdeep, Aman Malik, Dilsher, and Aarsh, allegedly chased and attacked the victims before they could escape.

The injured have been identified as Harmandeep Mann and Karandeep Singh, both residents of Housing Board Colony, Sector 43, and Gurkirat Singh, who is also the complainant in the case. All three are undergoing treatment at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32.

Police believe the assault was a retaliatory move by SDCU supporters after a member of their group was allegedly beaten by Indian Students’ Front (ISF) supporters earlier this week.

“This appears to be an act of retaliation tied to the ongoing campus political rivalry,” said a police official from Sector-34 station.

A case has been registered under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Sections 126(2) (wrongful restraint), 190 (unlawful assembly), 191(2)/(3) (rioting), 115 and 118(1) (voluntarily causing hurt), and 351(3) (criminal intimidation).

Authorities have stepped up surveillance on the campus as tensions continue to simmer in the run-up to the elections.
