AAP Must Give Report Card: Warring at Tarn Taran Campaign

by TheReportingTimes

Tarn Taran, October 28: Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring on Monday urged voters in Tarn Taran to seek accountability from the ruling Aam Aadmi Party over its performance during the past four years in office.

Addressing a public meeting in support of Congress candidate Karanbir Singh Burj, Warring said people should “ask the ruling party about its promises” before casting their votes.

“They don’t have much more time left — better hold them to account right away,” Warring told the gathering amid chants of bhole so nihal.

The Congress has stepped up its campaign for the Tarn Taran by-election, with the PCC chief camping in the constituency and meeting local leaders and workers to mobilize support for Burj.

Referring to key issues raised during the 2022 Assembly elections, Warring said people were still waiting for the promised monthly assistance of ₹1,100 to women, stronger measures against drugs, and improvements in education and healthcare.

He alleged that the state continued to face challenges related to drug abuse and vacancies in public institutions. “People expected change, but these areas still need urgent attention,” he said.

Warring also praised the party’s candidate, describing Burj as “honest, clean and belonging to a respected panthic family known for service at the Darbar Sahib.”

Lat year, the Punjab government launched a state-wide drive to curb the drug menace. Police and excise officials have carried out a series of operations leading to arrests, property seizures, and demolition of assets linked to drug peddlers in multiple districts. The government has said that these measures aim to deliver a “strong message of zero tolerance” while helping affected families through rehabilitation and awareness programmes.
