Oil Ministry urges public to avoid unsafe storage as domestic refineries meet full demand

by TheReportingTimes

New Delhi, March 14:The Union Petroleum Ministry has declared that India possesses sufficient reserves of crude oil and refined products, urging the public to refrain from panic-buying or storing fuel in unauthorized containers. The advisory was prompted by safety concerns after a petrol pump in Tamil Nadu was penalized for violating dispensing protocols.

Government officials maintained that the country’s refineries are functioning at their peak to ensure that every retail outlet remains well-supplied. Sujata Sharma, Joint Secretary for Marketing and Oil Refinery, affirmed that domestic production is successfully fulfilling national needs. She stated that the current geopolitical situation in West Asia has not impacted the availability of petrol or diesel on the ground.

“There is no need for us to import petrol or diesel as our domestic production is enough,” Sharma asserted during a recent briefing.

The ministry declared that storing fuel in loose containers poses a significant fire risk and urged consumers to prioritize safety. Authorities affirmed that inspectors are monitoring retail outlets to ensure that safety regulations are not bypassed.

The government maintained that while supply lines are robust, the cooperation of the public in following safety norms is essential. Officials declared that the suspension of the Tamil Nadu pump serves as a warning to other operators to maintain high safety standards while dispensing fuel to the public.
