Bergamo, April 19: An investigation is underway in northern Italy after two men of Indian origin were fatally shot in what local police are describing as a deliberate ambush. The incident occurred Friday evening in Covo, Bergamo, as members of the local Sikh community gathered to celebrate the Baisakhi festival at the Gurdwara Mata Sahib Kaur Ji.

The victims, Raginder Singh and Gurmit Singh, both aged 48, were targeted in the square fronting the industrial warehouse used for religious services. Italian investigators stated that the nature of the attack points toward a premeditated act. Approximately 10 shots were fired during the encounter, and reports indicate that a third person narrowly escaped serious injury when a bullet grazed them.

A witness affirmed that the shooter was an Indian individual who had been seen at the gurdwara on previous occasions. Following the shooting, the suspect reportedly used a car to escape the industrial zone. Local media outlets maintained that law enforcement has ruled out a sudden argument as the cause of the bloodshed, focusing instead on the execution-style nature of the crime.

Raginder Singh lived locally in Covo, while Gurmit Singh resided in Agnadello. The tragedy occurred just hours before scheduled official celebrations involving local government officials. Carabinieri from Treviglio are coordinating the ongoing probe, utilizing witness statements and forensic evidence gathered from the scene to identify the assailant.
